John Cullen was a true pioneer in the field of lighting design. Serving as a talented lighting designer for numerous BBC screen productions, he developed a deep fascination with the transformative effect of light on various environments and moods. This passion ultimately led him to establish his own company in the year 1981. In his professional journey, he struck up a significant collaboration with fellow lighting designer Sally Storey, and together they carefully forged the foundational principles that continue to drive the company to this day. Their mission has always been to create understated yet elegant luminaries that are capable of producing inspiring lighting effects.

The first showroom was opened in Smith Street, London, in 1982, a space designed by Sally Storey herself, and it was promptly recognised for its unique approach and innovative philosophy. After John’s passing, Sally took the reins as the leader of the brand and continues to innovate and elevate the company as Creative Director, driven by her profound belief in the ability to inspire and transform through the incredible power of light. Over the years, we have expanded from our cherished Chelsea roots to establish a global team, with offices now located in key cities such as London, Dubai, Paris, and Mumbai, where we engage in a diverse array of projects that span across the world.
